IF YOU COLLECT PENS, STOP STORING THEM LIKE CUTLERY
A pen collection in a cup is just a bundle of sticks; laid flat in a stepped rail, it becomes something you look at. Kvist tiers the rests so the pen behind sits higher than the one in front, exactly the way a watch tray or a knife rack works. Each pen lies on its side, which is also the right way to store one that is inked and resting. It belongs on the shelf above the desk as much as on it.
WHY IT EARNS ITS SPACE ON YOUR DESK
- Tiers each rest above the one in front — so every pen in the row is visible without lifting the ones nearest you.
- Lays pens horizontally in cut channels — which is the storage position that keeps an inked nib from drying out or flooding.
- Mills channels wide enough for clipped caps — so a pen with a prominent clip still beds down flat instead of rocking.
- Carries the whole row on a single solid blank — so there are no glued-on tiers to shear off when you move the rail.
- Sits ready out of the box — needing nothing but a flat surface and about twenty centimetres of depth.
